While nothing Chevrolet unveiled today at the New York Auto Show is quite as aggressive as the Chevrolet Aveo RS Concept that we saw at the Detroit Auto Show, the all-new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze RS package certainly adds plenty of sportiness to an already stellar sedan.

Complimenting the already affordable, spacious, and fuel-efficient Cruze will be a new RS package available on the LT and LTZ models which adds a more aggressive front and rear fascia, rocker moldings, rear spoiler, special wheels, fog lamps and of course special RS badging.

Inside, the Cruze’s RS package also adds chrome accents, opaque cluster bezels, and even cloth accents on the dash to provide a more premium look and feel.

Powering the 2011 Chevy Cruze RS package is a 1.4-liter Ecotec turbocharged four cylinder engine delivering 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft of torque. This unit can be mated to either a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.

Pricing for the new RS package has yet to be announced. While this new package greatly improves the looks of an already handsome sedan, let’s hope that Chevrolet will soon go a step further and launch a Chevrolet Cruze SS to compete head to head with the MazdaSpeed3 or VW GTI.

When the Chevrolet Cruze becomes available, Maryland Chevrolet dealerships are confident that it will appeal to a diverse range of consumers. The RS Package will no doubt ensure that the Cruze will appeal to the sports enthusiasts as well. But it won’t be without its fair share of competition, as VA Hyundai dealers will soon have compact offerings like 2011 Hyundai Elantra which is expected to offer a level of style, technology, and comfort, that few cars in this segment have ever offered.
