The initial batch of the updated 2011 Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty pickups are on their way to showrooms. Production on the Silverado HD began on Monday at GM’s Flint Assembly Plant in Flint, Michigan.
The launch of the Silverado HD is a welcomed addition to the Chevy lineup if you ask the Flint Assembly Plant’s employees, as it helps secure existing jobs. By the end of the year the plant will produce five truck models.
“Members of UAW Local 598 put the finishing touches on the first truck, a red, regular cab Silverado HD,” General Motors said in a statement. “It is headed to Rodas Chevrolet in Strawberry Point, Iowa, a town that has a population of 1,400 and boasts the world’s largest (artificial) strawberry.”
Hudson, NY Campers dealer said the 2011 Silverado HD delivers best in class towing with its 21,700-pound towing capacity. Power is supplied by a Vortec 6.0-liter gasoline V8 making 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque or a 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 making 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque.
Heavy duty truck buyers consider towing capacity and a diesel engine important factors, according to Warrenton Chevrolet. Often how much payload or towed weight a truck can handle will make or break a sale.
