The buzz surrounding the 2011 Chevrolet Volt has been nonstop for the quite some time, as GM has plenty riding on this innovative new vehicle. Being able to travel 40 miles before using any gasoline, the Volt will be instrumental in making the Chevy brand known for fuel-efficiency.

Despite the allure of saving money at the pump with an extended-range EV such as the Volt, it unfortunately requires premium fuel according to a recently-released standard equipment list.

The need for premium fuel is a bit odd considering the size and power of the Volt. Under the hood is a small 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and this isn’t exactly a performance car.  And it also seems odd considering that one its its main competitors, the Toyota Prius, doesn’t require premium fuel.

In addition to standard equipment information, Chevrolet also released pricing for the Volt. After incentives and credits, consumers are looking at a base price of around $33,500.
