The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show is well known for putting the spotlight on some pretty hot cars, and this year, the event officially recognized the Chevrolet Camaro as the hottest.

Launched to honor the country’s most “accessory friendly” auto, the inaugural “SEMA Award for Hottest Car” was based on which car appeared most often at this year’s show: “A booth space is a ballot, and the models these exhibitors have selected represent their vote,” according Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO.

Chevrolet itself certainly did its share, bringing four heavily modded Camaros to the event, including at least one that’s definitely destined for production: The 2011 Synergy Series Camaro. Projected to be the first of a series of limited-edition models that Chevrolet will release each year under the Synergy Series banner, this year’s entry was designed to emphasize a new approach to customization and accessory parts.

The Synergy Series Camaro will be available in the first half of 2011 with an eye-catching Cyber Gray exterior that boasts a new grille and comprehensive ground-effects package from Chevrolet Accessory. The interior is done in a complementary gray color accented by red stitching, and also includes a Silver Ice interior trim kit from Chevrolet Accessory, ambient lighting for the footwells and cupholders, a Hurst shifter, a bold red instrument cluster set off by accent lighting, and red-bor dered Chevrolet Accessory floor mats with silver Camaro lettering.

The car will be available in both V6 and V8 trim, with the latter boasting red Brembo brake calibers, a six-speed manual transmission and the Camaro’s big 6.2-liter LS3 engine under the hood.

“More than any other venue, the cars exhibitors and attendees bring to SEMA embody the passion and excitement of car enthusiasts everywhere,” added John Fitzpatrick, Chevrolet Performance Cars marketing manager. “Based on the sheer number of Camaros displayed on the floor, and parked in the adjacent lots, the Camaro was clearly the hottest car of the show.”
