The same technology that powers the all-new Chevrolet Volt may soon find its way into a minivan “in the next few years,” according to General Motors Co. CEO Dan Akerson.
GM officials have long said that the technology will find its way into other vehicles provided by Chevrolet Dealer Springfield besides the Volt sedan. But so far, according to Chevrolet Alexandria, GM has been quiet on which specific models would likely receive it.
At the 2011 Automotive News World Congress, Akerson said that for the next-generation Volt, GM will focus its efforts on cost reduction. Broadening the Volt lineup and introducing a minivan could become a part of that strategy.
“We have been pleased and a bit surprised with the initial demands, initial orders for Volts,” Akerson said. “We don’t want to miss the opportunity.”
In addition to the Volt, Akerson also said that 10 percent of GM’s lineup will include hybrids, plug-in hybrids, or electric vehicles within the next decade.
