GM Considers Flagship Manhattan Dealer Amid IPO

According to new reports from BusinessWeek, General Motors is deciding whether to build a glitzy flagship showroom in Manhattan to excite “high-fashion New Yorkers, tourists and high-rolling investors.” Naturally such a move would be in part to raise attention for the automaker’s upcoming IPO.

Currently, General Motors commands a modest 9.6% market share in the New York metro area. At the very least, perhaps a glamorous Manhattan showroom could help change that, if nothing else.

GM is planning for an IPO by early 2011, so it’s doubtful that such a showroom can be created quickly and generate any significant buzz to truly impact the IPO.
