What do you get when you mix one of the most successful names in NASCAR history, the innovative motor oil company that sponsors that team, and America’s hottest muscle car? Well, when you have the folks at Pennzoil along to grease the wheels, the answer is the 2010 RCR Camaro SS, the very first production car from the new Richard Childress Racing Street Performance Group.
It all starts with a 2010 Camaro SS, which holsters a big-time 6.2-liter V8 that makes a potent 426 horses and 420 lb.-ft. of twist. Right out of the box, that’s good for 0-60 runs in about 4.7 seconds and an electronically governed top speed of 155 mph. But the thing is, the RCR Group is thinking way outside the box on its new custom Camaro. The car gets kitted out in a wide range of mods that up the ante significantly when it comes to both power and style.
“Go fast” goodies include a Magnusson supercharger, Wilwood six-caliper brakes, a Stage 4+ clutch, a custom-ground camshaft, custom headers, a cold-air intake, enhanced suspension and more, along with a body kit that makes heavy use of lightweight carbon fiber. The front splitter, rear diffuser, side skirts, rear spoiler and hood scoop all get the carbon-fiber treatment, while also giving the RCR Camaro a suitably menacing appearance.
The look is further enhanced by an “old-school” grille treatment that hearkens back to the classic Camaros of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as 22-inch custom wheels wrapped up in performance rubber, a custom paint job with unique RCR graphics and a matching interior.
The price tag on this instant classic? If you play your cards right, the MSRP could come in at a surprisingly affordable $0. That’s because the first RCR Camaro will be the grand prize in the Pennzoil “Get Your Key to Clean” promotion, supporting its line of advanced engine-cleansing lubricants.
Simply head on over to www.pennzoil.com (by July 31) to enter. Five finalists and their guests will get the full RCR VIP treatment at NASCAR’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 16, and each of the five winners will get a key with which to try and start the RCR Camaro. Whoever gets the power-packed V8 to turn over keeps the car.
But just remember: Getting you into the RCR Camaro is Pennzoil’s job—getting out of any speeding tickets is yours.
