General Motors pulled a one eighty this week as it has officially dropped plans to bring the seven-passenger Chevrolet Orlando crossover to the U.S. Rather than bringing yet another new model to the lineup, GM cited the desire to instead focus on current products.
The Orlando is based on the same platform that underpins the Chevrolet Cruze sedan and is slated to on sale in Europe, Asia, and Canada soon.
“The best thing to do for Chevrolet is to focus on the brands we’ve already brought to market: the Traverse, Equinox, Malibu and, soon to come, the Cruze,” said Margaret Brooks, Chevrolet’s product marketing director. “We feel that with those vehicles, Chevrolet has plenty of options for the modern family.”
The original U.S. launch date for the Chevy Orlando was 2011. In lieu of the Orlando’s U.S. launch, GM plans to boost production of the Malibu sedan and Equinox crossover.
