General Motors has officially unveiled the much anticipated Chevrolet Volt during it’s the celebrations for the company’s 100 year anniversary. The Chevrolet Volt is powered by a large lithium-ion battery pack that will facilitate a range of about 40 miles without the help of gasoline on a single charge. A full charge can be done within several hours. The vehicle offers the equivalent of 150 horsepower and has a top speed of about 100 miles per hour. GM also reports that the Chevy Volt can reach a speed of 60 mph in less than 9 seconds, which should quell fears from potential buyers at Chevrolet San Diego dealers  who are concerned about performance and general passing power.

With the Chevy Volt’s battery pack placed in the center of the vehicle, a Louisiana Chevrolet dealer says it helps contribute to the vehicle’s low center of gravity and improved ride and handling. Charging this battery can be done via a port that’s located near the driver’s side mirror.

GM says that the Chevrolet Volt will cost less than 2 cents per mile to drive on electricity, which they claim will cost less than the electricity used by a household refrigerator. Only as the battery run down will the gasoline engine engage and help generate additional electricity.

Unlike hybrids or plug-in electric hybrid vehicles, Used Autos Louisville points out that the Chevrolet Volt is driven only on electricity. The onboard gasoline powered engine is used to generate electricity for the electric motor, which is used to propel the vehicle.

The Chevrolet Volt has been a concept since its introduction in 2007 at the Detroit Auto Show, and has been used heavily in advertising and promotions as a tool to promote GM’s commitment to green technology, which should also satisfy frugal car shoppers at Used Cars Albuquerque who increasingly demand vehicles with high fuel efficiency.

While many have been disappointed that the production Chevrolet Volt does not have the aggressive, angular lines of the concept, it still provides attractive styling. More importantly, Chevrolet and Chevy dealers such as Chevrolet dealers Valparaiso are looking to take market share from import dealers who have seen strong sales of hybrid vehicles, such as Golden Valley MN Toyota which as seen a surge in hybrid sales in recent months.

The upcoming Chevrolet Volt is expected to fetch a price tag of about $40,000, although this hasn’t been confirmed. At least 10,000 units are expected to be built in the first year of production.
