GM’s EN-V Concept was unveiled recently in Shanghai and represents what may be the future of urban mobility.

The EN-V, which stands for Electric Networked Vehicle, is an electric vehicle that can be connected to sensors in the road that enable it to be driven either manually by the driver or completely by itself. In addition, the EN-V features vehicle-to-vehicle communications, distance-sensing, and GPS. Power is supplied by a lithium-ion battery and electric motors that help the EN-V reach a top speed of just 25 mph.

For densely populated areas, the EN-V would come in handy. Not only can it drive completely autonomously, but its on board systems can help avert collisions with other vehicles, and decipher the fastest route to a destination.

Just today, GM released a new video that provides an up close look at the EN-V and it examines why this vehicle may help combat some problems associated with rapid urbanization.
