Chevrolet has been touting the Volt’s ability to travel forty miles on electricity, producing zero emissions, before the gasoline motor kicks in to propel the vehicle. But what exactly does forty miles look like?

According to General Motors, more than 80 percent of Americans drive less than forty miles each day. That means that the vast majority of drivers will be able to take advantage of the Volt’s electric powertrain without having to use any gasoline.

Realizing the importance of illustrating this distance, GM just released a video incorporating Google Maps to show how drivers will never have to use gas when commuting to and from work, running errands, and dropping the kids off at school, all on the same day.

If you’re skeptical about what forty miles of electric power can really deliver, check out this video and then decide.
