Have you ever wondered how automakers come up with exterior paint color names? Names like Squeeze Green, Night Armor, and Egg Yolk Yellow make us wonder if people are paid simply for developing such bizarre names.
For the upcoming Chevrolet Volt, naming the colors has been left to average consumers. Chevy has already opened up suggestions for colors for the new Volt, and three finalists have already been chosen: EV-ergreen, environMINT and Viridian Joule. To decide which name will be attached to the Volt, consumers can visit Chevrolet VoltAge through 8 a.m. Eastern on Dec. 1 to vote.
The finalist who has the winning name will be given the opportunity to test-drive a pre-production Volt, which won’t go on sale until the end of next year. All three of the finalists will be flown to see the Volt debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. The development of the Volt has received substantial focus at General Motors and it will be able to travel up to 40 miles on a single electrical charge. Chevrolet says the fuel economy is equivalent to 230 mpg.
